Nice weekend up at Lotusbird Lodge, about 6 hours drive north of
Cairns and with the road in good shape despite a late wet, though
some of the tracks in Lakefield NP are poor still.
Highlights below:
Red Goshawk a pair and an immature
Black-breasted Buzzard 1
Grass Owl 2 Nifold Plain
Southern Boobook an obliging one at the lodge, and one feeding on the
track on Nifold Plain
Barking Owl 2 on Nifold Plain by the windmill track
Papuan Frogmouth 1 by the lodge
Tawny Frogmouth 4 grey phase birds spotlit one night
Golden-shouldered Parrot c. 30 inc. 3 males by the road just south of
Windmill Creek late pm. on the way north
Banded Honeyeater a few about
Red-headed Honeyeater 1 male Marina Plains and 2 f between Annie's
Creek and 5 mile camp
Star Finch 22 imm. and 4 adults Nifold Plain
Black-throated Finch about 30 seen
No Silver-crowned Friarbirds, and no sign of White-streaked
Honeyeater or Gouldian Finch.
No luck with Spectacled Hare-wallaby or Northern Nail-tail.
Sue and Gary looked after us very nicely, it's a great place for a
few days.
A Square-tailed Kite and a Little Eagle near Mt. Molloy were
pleasing, as was White-gaped Honeyeater at McLeod R. about 20 km N of
Mt. Carbine.
