Hi all
Spent some time around Kurrajong Hills in the lower Blue Mountains west
of Sydney, and the nearby Hawkesbury on Sat 30 Jun and Sun 1 Jul. Not
much birding but a few interesting sightings:
Wedge-tailed Eagle - 1 low over Rouse Hill, quite far east into suburban
land, being mobbed by about 15 ravens, on 30/6.
Wonga Pigeon - pair with juvenile in garden at Kurrajong Hills - have
not observed breeding at this time of year here previously
Fan-tailed Cuckoo - seems to be some kind of invasion occuring with a
few sightings at Kurrajong and Kurmond and about 11 birds in an hour at
Sackville around midday on 1/7. Individuals all seen in very prominent
positions ie on electricity wires and fences.
Stannix Park was quiet with 4 Jacky Winters, good numbers of Dusky
Woodswallows, a few Striated Pardalotes, a Whistling Kite and the
regular Little Corellas on 1/7.
