Hi all

Heading off to Darwin in about a weeks time. Hopefully drier and warmer
than here in Dungog at the moment.

I have searched birding-aus archives and have both Denise Goodfellow's and
Niven McCrie's books and a whole host of places to visit.

I was just wondering if anyone/locals have any current knowledge on any of
the following:

Red Goshawk sites

Star Finch and Yellow-rumped Manikin sites closer than Victoria River.( I
know YRM's are seen in Darwin but amongst many hydbrids as well? )

Is the road up to Gunlom Falls still open and if not are the other
White-throated Grasswren sites before you get to the falls accessible and
worth a look ?

Any overwintering vagrants such as Little Ringed Plover etc

The other species I am hoping for , and have plenty of potential sites for
are:

Chestnut-backed Buttonquail
Banded Fruitdove
Chestnut Rail
Zitting Cisticola
Hooded Parrot
Chestnut-quilled Rock Pigeon

Any current knowledge on a good reliable spot for any of these species
would be greatly appreciated and of course a trip report will be posted
upon my return.

As usual we have limited time so have to be very organised so as not to
waste too much time and miss out on some species but I also like to
leisurely bird and photograph as I am "twitching".

Thanks in advance

Dick Jenkin
