Hi all, I've been recently contemplating a trip to Weipa for the SWD and
have been given info by current visitors. They were seen by Enid Pascoe
during a one day stay on 15th June on the poo ponds. Last evening a call
from Peter and Rhonda Barrand ( Sabines Gull, Derby) indicated that a
two day ( 26/27th June) search of the whole Weipa area had proved
fruitless, but in another call this morning they said they had managed
to find a single bird ( somewhere along the gulf near Weipa).
Previously a local had suggested the SWD's were more or less resident
and could be found anytime at various sites around the town. Peter and
Rhonda's experience suggests this is not necessarily as easy as it
sounds as it took them three days to find one bird.
The lesson from this is to allow several days at Weipa for anyone
planning a trip and not to expect to dash in and out in one day, which
is what I had been thinking of doing.

Tony.
