Hi all
Went to Birds Australia Gluepot Reserve again today and what a difference a
few days make. My previous posting described the phenomal bird activity a
few days ago during a wet, cold, windy day; today it was calm, sunny, warm
(24C after a 0C start at sunrise) and the birds at Gluepot were hard to
find. In the end we managed to get sightings (some frustratingly brief) of
most key species after a lot of hard work but the one thing that was
astonishing and contradicting this trend were the large numbers of Chestnut
Quail-thrush. At the end of the day I had counted no less than 31
individuals! These included several 5-strong family groups, as well as many
single or paired birds flushed from the track. Most promising was that there
were at least 8 birds found in the burnt area south of Gluepot - where
regeneration is well & truly underway.
Cheers
