A few thoughts for you Geraldine on this great little rainforest park in
Gippsland south of Traralgon.

Tarra-Bulga National Park

This park is well worth visiting but remember that July will be cold and
could be wet as well, be sure to come with plenty of warm clothing.

The area is great for rainforest birds, especially robins, thornbills,
Australian King Parrots, Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoos and the amazing
Superb Lyrebird. The dense and very tall habitat means you will be
spending much time with your eyes in the treetops so some knowledge of
bird CALLS is valuable.

The Parks Victoria web pages should be checked before you arrive viz.
Tarra-Bulga National Park -> http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/

Any of the marked walks on the Parks Victoria Visitors Guide for the park
are good for birds, especially if you get out EARLY ie. just before or
after dawn...there is a Visitors Centre up at Balook that has additional
information and maps.

The La Trobe Valley Field Naturalists Club may be worth contacting as well
-> http://home.vicnet.net.au/~lvfnc/

Be sure to take notes of the birds you see and when and where you observe
them. It's worth forwarding your observations on to the Atlas of
Victorian Wildlife

cheers, Martin
