Greenwood Lakes Reserve on Paradise Road at Forestdale on the
southern outskirts of Brisbane is a very good spot for birding.
On Sunday on a short half hour visit I saw Varied Triller, Rose and
Yellow Robins; Variegated and Superb Fairy-wrens; Brown, Lewins,
Yellow-faced and Scarlet Honeyeaters;, Golden Whistler,
Mistletoebird, Striated Pardalote, Silvereye, Spangled Drongo,
Eastern Whipbird, Double Barred Finch, Welcome Swallow, Fairy Martin,
King Parrot, Rainbow Lorikeet, Darter, Little Pied and Little Black
Cormorants; Wood Duck, Black Duck, Grey Teal, Intermediate, Little
and Great Egrets; Purple Swamphen, Dusky Moorhen, Black-fronted
Dotteral, White Ibis, Magpielark, Magpie, Willy Wagtail, Torresian Crow.
Nothing out of the ordinary, but not a bad list in a short time. The
area is particularly well maintained and has a viewing platform
across one of the lakes.
