This morning, Seb Pardo, Mike Bennett, Chris Glen, Eric McElroy (visiting
from Ohio) and myself were surprised to see a female Rose-ringed Parakeet
fly over the lakes at Sherwood Arboretum in Brisbane and land in a
Eucalypt. It remained in the tree for a few minutes before the harassment
from a Galah was too much and the bird headed off.
Can anyone provide information on the status of the species around
Brisbane? This may be a one-off escapee and I know there was a recent BA
discussion about them in Melbourne, but we'd be interested to hear if they
are regularly seen in SE Queensland.
About an hour later a Black Kite flew over heading in an easterly
direction. As I understand it, this is an uncommon bird within Brisbane
(although can be see in the Lockyer Valley not too far to the west).
Also present were 2 Spotless Crakes, an Azure Kingfisher and a Water Rat.
