Hi David
I would certainly agree with you on the status of these two woodswallows
around Brisbane. Greg Roberts in his "The Birds of South-east
Queensland" 1979, records both of them as "moderately common".
I regularly see White-breasted Woodswallow on a survey I do along
Bulimba Creek and around Minnippi wetlands, and also often see them on
our way to work from the road bridge across Oxley Creek near Oxley
Common but I haven't seen Dusky Woodswallows around Brisbane for some
years.
Cheers
Peter

Subject: Status of Dusky Woodswallows in Brisbane
I noticed a recent posting on Birding-aus regarding Dusky
Woodswallows. It prompted me about the status of Dusky Woodswallows
in the Brisbane area? I have to say I have not observed one in many
many a day in my travels around Brisbane. Certainly I once used to
see them in places such a Fishermans Island, Pinkenba etc. A number
of lists and guides rate them as 'common' in Brisbane. Interestingly
the White-breasted Woodswallow, which is classed as 'uncommon' in
the region is a bird I regularly see in different Brisbane locations.
I would be interested in anyones comments on their experience/
sightings of Dusky Woodswallows in and around Brisbane in recent
times. Perhaps the places I go are just not Dusky Woodswallow spots
and they really are common in certain parts of the greater Brisbane
area?
And if they are a much less common bird these days perhaps it is as a
result of the drought conditions?
cheers
David Taylor
