I was on our local sports oval this afternoon in company with a flock
of 20 or so Straw-necked Ibises when a lone Ibis approached. As it
drew near and plainly decided to join the flock I thought it gave a
strange little call, an electronic sounding 'pee-pee-pee-pee-pee',
quite faint and low. I am 90% certain it was the ibis that uttered
this call, but it could have been a distant mobile phone or something
from the spectators at the soccer match at the other end of the oval.
Has anyone ever heard a SN Ibis make anything like this call before?
