In the early 1990's (probably 1991) I remember tracking down a Spiny-cheeked
Honeyeater in Cocoparra NP (near in Griffith in SW NSW) that wasmdoing a
perfect imitation of a Grey Shrike-thrush.
The only SCHE that I can recall having heard mimic.
Cheers,
Peter

Subject: [Birding-Aus] Mimicry in Spiny cheeked Honeyeater
Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2007 11:54:51 +1000
Hi Birders,
This past Easter Weekend I travelled out to Lightning Ridge with my family
and camped out along the Narran River. Early Sunday morning my father and I
went for a birding walk and followed the call of an Olive backed Oriole.
You can imagine our suprise when we found, not an Oriole, but a Spiny
cheeked Honeyeater calling and mimicing several birds. Included in its
repertoire was Mudlark, Wedge tailed Eagle, Oriole, and several other calls
I didn't recognise.
Has anyone else ever found this species to mimic.
cheers
Glenn McRae
