Don't know about Wombats, but roast bandicoot is delicious.  Ate a lot of
bandicoot on our farm in the early 1930s.  Couldn't afford the butcher-shop
very often in those Depression days.

(Not joking!  But don't try Bandicoot now.  They are, quite rightly,
protected fauna.)
