This afternoon on the way back from airport Alice Springs just before the first hills coming into town there was a black breasted buzzard floating around like a butterfly. I am sure others have noticed the similarity between the black breasted buzzards flight and the flight of butterflies previously, but this is the first time it has struck me. The short tail, wings in a V and most noticeably the sudden lifting in elevation without any apparent change in wing position are very reminiscent of a butterfly. A most enjoyable interlude.
