Hi Michael,
Thanks for that info. I have never heard of them at Langwarrin. It may
be a new record for the park. Do you know who keeps records for
Langwarrin. Costermans perhaps?
Cheers, Paul.

Melbourne
Hi Paul
I've never noted down any record of two birds for the Melbourne area
before.
And that includes two at different locations!
One guess is that they just occasionally migrate south from places like
Canberra (where they breed, with few records in the colder months).
The earliest Melbourne area record I know is 21/3/1966 (also the
earliest in
the year). A bird appeared by Barbara Salter's house in Black Rock,
Bayside, was fed after a few days, and left about 2 weeks later.
Other records up to August are: Mount Waverley May 1997 and Ringwood
July
1998 (both noted as Bird Observer no. 792), Woodlands Historic
Park/Gellibrand Hill July 2000 (Lawrie Conole) and Brighton (Bayside
again)
14/7/2002. (This bird stayed until 21/9 and was possibly heard as early
as
10 June).
There are also Bayside records from Cheltenham on 13/8/1995 and around
August 2002, and one that stayed in Beaumaris from 17/10 to 14/11/2004.
Only
other record I have noted for Melbourne is from Jells Park on 9/9/1998.
Cheers
Michael Norris
