Just a note to let birding aus readers know that the winner of the 2007
Serventy Medal is a long time birder, Lindsay Smith from SOSSA. Lindsay
received the medal yesterday from the NSW environment minister Bob Debus at a
luncheon at Parliament house Sydney. Lindsay has worked with Albatross for over
20 yrs and the Wollongong seabird study is the longest seabird study in the
world now into it's 50th year. It was the first time I have seen the old sea
dog lost for words and I wonder if he will be wearing the medal ( which must
weigh about 1 kg) on next Sat boat trip! Lindsay and Janice work hard to keep
SOSSA afloat with their talks, monthly boat trips and banding trips to five
islands and it was great to see their hard work recognized. Regards Terrill
