I don't know why I wrote that, as there can be shadows any time the sun
is out.  For what it's worth, it was about 5.30pm so the sun was lowish.
The bird was to the north of me, flying east, and the sun was to the
north west, so it would have been in my eyes a bit, although I didn't
really notice at the time.
