Dear Everyone,
My 16 year old son, Simon and I are thinking of doing a CY trip in the 2
weeks leading up to Christmas 2007.
Looking at the correspondence on Birding-Aus, not many trip reports have
been logged, suggesting not many people venture there (or maybe they just
don't come back!). However, we are determined to go, and pick up as many of
the specialities we can. We may be joined by a friend from the UK.
My guess is:
1. There aren't that many places to stay on a route which is designed about
the finding of birds, so at least some of the time has to be spent camping.
2. Therefore most people who do a trip there arrange it with a guide with
local expertise.
Can anyone who has experience of this please let me know how they went about
it, where to see the specialities, and if it is unwise to do the trip
'solo', who the best guides for such a trip would be? Please note this will
be a serious attempt to pick up as many of the specialities as we can. We
have visited Cairns and environs, and only 'need' a few species from those
areas such as Blue-faced Parrot Finches, Great-billed Heron and 2 or 3
others.
Many thanks
Tim
