The Cluster Fig, Ficus racemosa, is, I think, the only cauliflorous fig in
SE Qld. It is an uncommon species, which presents two possibilities: 1.
that the fig-parrots feed on other figs, of which there are several, or 2.
if they only go for the Cluster Fig, then maybe that is why they are scarce
(even more scarce than the trees).

Hi All,
Does anyone out there know of any cauliflorous fig species native
to the Border Ranges, or an address I might contact to find out.
No prizes for guessing why. We've seen amazingly cryptic Fig
Parrots feeding on cauliferous fig tree trunks in Cape York (marshalli) and
PNG,(?) both times as walked past a few metres away. Although looking hard
for Fig Parrots, we would have missed them had they not been pointed out..
The parrots weren't much bigger than the figs, were barely moving, and in
the rainforest gloom were easy to overlook.
They (macleayana) are relatively easy to spot around Atherton in
more conventionally fruiting figs, but only when their calls give them away.
Otherwise almost impossible to locate.
Coxens are out there, maybe on cauliflorous fig trees if they
exist in the border area
(Cauliflorous figs have fruit growing on their trunks)
