The owner of an industrial site a few 100m north of Truganina Wetlands in Altona has applied for a permit to land a helicopter there several times a week. The proposed flight path would have it at a height of perhaps 200m just north of the wetlands as it descends to the landing site. The council has denied the application and now the case is going to appeal at VCAT. Council was originally going to to use the "effect on migratory birds" as an argument at the appeal, but has dropped this due to "lack of expert witnesses". I'm not calling for volunteers, but does anyone have any knowledge of the effect on birds of a helicopter at this height near wetlands?
