Hi Philip,

I did not attempt your bird quiz as I am presently writing my thesis on the Black-necked Stork and, although tempted, did not want to get too distracted. I did note your comments regarding storks excreting onto their legs and I can confirm that Black-necked Storks on the NSW North Coast do in fact do this but it is not a common activity. It is almost certainly done to cool down and Black-necked Storks also excrete over their nests, eggs and nestlings, apparently for the same reason. The behaviour of excreting onto legs, called 'chalking', has been commonly recorded in non-breeding White Storks in Africa.
