First winter plumage Laughing Gull at Cairns Esplanade this morning Feb 13,
with Silver Gulls opp the RSL Club. Reported by Frank Harrison at 7 pm on
Monday, Rolf Jensen and I went to check it out today and bingo, lightning does
strike twice as the First Oz record was from here in 1987 when what was
eventually 2 birds spent a year + here! Long, heavy decurved black bill, grey
nape, broad black subterminal band with narrow pale tip and susky sides, narrow
white trailing edge to wing confirm it as Laughing and not Frankini's Gull.
Good birding
Phil Gregory / Rolf Jensen
