Gavin,Having seen but not acted on your posting of 26/12, I finally got myself to Bryden on Sun arvo (28/1).Probably started a little too early (4.30pm) but managed to get a covey of 4 Brown Quail crossing the lane, as well as good views of Brown Songlark, and heaps of Singing Bushlark. About 6pm joined forces with a 3-birder family and again walked the lane. We managed to flush 3 small button-quail at three separate spots, but were unable to ID any of them (except to know they weren't Brown Quail). All we had were back views, at speed. The first to be flushed flew strongly and over 80 metres into the adjoining paddock, the others less strongly and for shorter distances (staying within the lane) but couldn't be found again, and the light finally beat us. Ah well, imagine expecting a button-quail to play the game on a first date!!! Russ Lamb, Maleny,SEQ |
