Hi all, I had a fantastic raptor day today (25/1/07) with the
highlights being a Sqaure-tailed Kite and Black Falcon, and I wasn't
even intentionally birding.
Heading home from Melbourne this morning I saw a large Black Falcon
pass over (I stopped to check ID) the Hume Freeway at Beveridge.
Judging by the large size this bird could have been a female.
Travelling home into Broadford along the Sunday Creek Road I saw a
raptor circling very low over box trees on the edge of town adjacent
to the golf course. Stopped to check ID and to my surprise it was an
adult Square-tailed Kite. The bird was observed for about 10 minutes
and seemed to work its way, very low, through and over the canopy of
trees on the golf course and around gardens on the edge of town.
Aamzing bird!
Other raptor sightings around Broadford today also included a pair of
Peregrine Falcon and three Wedge-tailed Eagles. Sightings have
been forwarded to Birdline Victoria.
Michael Ramsey, Broadford, Vic.
