Dear All,
Have many members seen mention on the various news services about the bush-fires north of Dubbo. They started on Friday in the Goonoo Community Conservation Area (formerly Goonoo State Forest) and so far some 19,000 hectares have been burnt out. This is very sad as it is prime Mugga Ironbark habitat and home to Mallee-fowl, Glossy Black- cockatoo and many other bird species. the forest was just starting to recover from another large fire some 2 years ago. I have spent quite a few pleasant hours birding and general nature-watching in the Goonoo and it is very sad to see so much burnt. The total area of SE Australia burnt out so far this fire season is nearing 2,000,000 hectares!
