Warren,

Are you sure of the date of publication. I have searched Country Life's archives for this story and have not come up with anything between 20/12/06 to date.

Queensland Country Life newspaper 28/12/06. p.52 has an item that field trails will take place in 2007 using the poison D1339 in feedlot rations to kill birds including cockatoos around feedlots and piggeries. I would think that any grain eating bird visiting the site would be at risk regardless of it's rarity. The trials with the livestock industry have been funded by the Invasive Animals Cooperative Research Centre and the Natural Heritage Trust. Who is actually carrying out the trials and how dod they propose to exclude non target species from access to the poison?
