Dear Scott and others,
As a fellow non-twitching novice birder who just enjoys the birds, I have
found these sites goods:
>From the ABC:
http://www.abc.net.au/archives/av/birds.htm
And a Dutch birdo who loves birding here has put this together -- photos and
some audio (scroll down the page to get to it)
http://ausbirds.tripod.com/#birds%20list
There are also a few good video sites, but these have sound.
Take care

Scott (& John & other interested Birding-Ausers)
as far as I can recall, this subject has been discussed at least once this
year (2006) so try the Birding-aus archives for the threads. There were a
couple of recommended resources. Commercially, Birds Australia's shop sell
various nature sound CDs, but I bought the 9 currently available CDs in "The
Field Guide to Australian Bird Song" set from the Blue Wren Shop at BOCA.
(I have no commercial interest in either BOCA or Birds Aus shop.) They may
seem a bit pricey at $200 + postage for the 9 (with one more to come) but
they do cover pretty much everything, so if you plan (or hope) to cover
plenty of Aus....
The Birds in Backyards pages of Birds Australia also have some calls -
search under the finder via http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/ (or even google
"[insert required species] call" and see what comes up).
Cheers
Tom Wilson
