Hi all BirdingAus-ers,
2006 was a great year for me as I hope it was for all of you.
I finally did some birding in SW Western Australia and had the 'pleasure' of dipping out on the
Noisy Scrub-bird.
Do I hear "Another trip coming up?"?
Also dipped out on the Black Grasswren.
(That species is now officially off my "must get" list.)
And Grey Falcon is still on my "Ain't No Such Bird" list.
As I said "a great year"!
Actually I added about 25 new species to my life list during 2006
2007 is potentially looming as one of my best birding years with possible trips to South Australia,
Victoria, NSW and various parts of Queensland.
With some good management and a lot of luck I might even crack the 600 during
the year.
And that will be without pelagics!
Never again will I go to sea!!
I have a suggestion for all those budding and blooming bird-photographers roaming the hills, plains,
deserts, jungles, islands, beaches and oceans with their new you-beaut digital cameras:
do yourselves a favour in the new year and join Ozbirdpix at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ozbirdpix/
It is an ideal forum to display your best quality and most artistic bird shots for the rest of us to
see and admire.
Being an on-line resource it is not necessary to have the ultimate in
photographic equipment (although it does help the ego) and the top-of-the line fixed-lens compact
cameras (some are not that compact!) can certainly be used to produce images worthy of display on
Ozbirdpix.
It would be good to have a few new contributors: there's a couple of members who need a bit of
competition. ;-)
But, if you are worried about your images not being good enough, don't.
Images that might look somewhat 'average' when printed out often look much better when processed for
showing on-line.
At least lurk in the back-ground for a while and you may get some ideas from
the 'experts'.
Note: You do have to subscribe to receive the images and it is advisable to have some sort of
broadband connection even if it is the slowest type like I have.
All the best for the new year and I hope that 2007 brings everyone of you what
you wish for.
Cheers
Bob Inglis
