Hi there,
Looks like the nests shown to me on the weekend aren't there anymore, but there
are some new ones. One banded Little Tern was sitting on one. Phil Straw said
there were 3 nests, 2 with 2 eggs and 1 with 3 (I think that was what he said -
sorry Phil). I took his word for it and didn't disturb the birds. The bands on
the Tern seen were Black over Aqua on the left, and Purple on the right. (I've
got a photo if anyone is interested). All up there were about 14 Little Terns
present this morning.
Also seen was a single Caspian Tern, until the jetskiers scared it away, a
single Crested Tern, a pair of Black-winged Stilts, a Great Egret very actively
fishing near the mangroves, a Royal Spoonbill and the usual suspects.
And at Eastlakes, I have yet again failed to see the Little Bittern. 7 attempts
now... grrrr. Good sighting of a male Figbird and 2 juveniles as soon as I got
out of the car however.
Cheers
Troy Mutton
