G'day Birders,
I went to Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve on Saturday to
check out the Black Honeyeater as reported by Marnix Zwankhuizen last week.
Armed with a great set of instructions, compass, GPS and bins I headed off
along the track. After about 35 minutes I found a group of about 10 very chatty
and friendly birders (not at all like the birders I meet at Kooragang 3 weeks
ago). Before long the we were all rewarded to great views of a male and female
Black Honeyeater in a dead mistletoe at the top of a large eucalypt. Apparently
a Painted Honeyeater had been seen chasing the Black honeyeater, but I missed
this, but did get great views of a pair of Little Lorrikeets, White-browed
Woodswallow, Leaden Flycatchers and surprisingly a Grey Currawong (not what I
was expecting but apparently not unusual).

In all there were about 14 birders looking for the bird on Saturday evening.

Cheers
Graham Turner
