Another old timer here with the same problem. I find I hear much better if I cup both ears with my hands. I'm therefore thinking of making a good sized aluminium reflector that will wrap around my head and be held in place with an elastic head band. I can get the aluminium sheet for a couple of dollars from the local sheet metal works, and I can pinch a bit of elastic from my wife's sewing drawer. That'll leave about seven or eight thousand for a digital slr and lenses, .....
