Hi Graham
Sounds like a great itinerary. Wish I could have the time to do all that
on one trip. Regarding Wollongong Pelagic, I didn't realise they would
run on a Monday!
Try Maroubra (beside drain at the southern end of the beach and next to
Rifle Range as another alternative site for Lewin's Rail.
Have a great trip
Edwin

Subject: Advice on NSW + VIC itinerary
Dear Birders,
On 23 Dec, I'm heading off from Brisbane on a 5-week trip down through
NSW, Vic,
and Tassie. I've put together an itinerary (below), which I was hoping
people might take a look at and tell me what they think of it.
The sites are listed in the order that I'll probably visit them. The
figures in brackets after the sites are for my own use. They're the
page name and Grid ref for the map I'm using.
After each site I've listed my 'target species' .
I'm particularly interested to find out if I'm targeting anything that
no longer occurs at any of these sites, or if I'm unlikely to see it
at this time of year. Conversely, am I targeting any species
(especially earlier on in my trip) which I really don't need to be
worrying about, as they'll be so common later on in the trip.
I'd also really like to hear about key locations that I appear to be
missing, and what birds I'm likely to see there.
This is the only time I can do this trip and I consider it a bit too
dangerous to go birding in the desert/outback areas, so I'd like to
know if there are any sites near where I'm going that I might pick up
some desert species which come a bit further east (e.g. close to my
return route to Queensland). I own a 'soft-road' vehicle (Hyundai
Santa Fe), so don't want to be heading down really sandy tracks in the
middle of nowhere.
And finally, if anyone has any recent, detailed information on any of
the sites mentioned, I'd love to hear from you.
I appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks,
Graham
