Hi Birders,

Recently the was a thread of emails concerning Mick Roderick's sighting of a nesting pair of Orange Chats on 13/9/06 near Leard SF near Gunnedah in NSW , presumably having moved further east than usual because of th drought.

Therefore of interest is a report of two pairs of Orange Chats with many White-fronted Chats in a field of canola near Woodstock, about 20 km NE of Cowra. It was during the dry period (drought) of 1981 that Orange Chats were recorded as far east as Molong, Wellington & Grong Grong near Wagga wagga, Woodstock is on a similar parallel. The observer was Neal Cootanche and the birds were seen on 1/11/06. Maret Vesk, organiser of the Coawra Bird Surveys has provided the details.

Normally Orange Chats occur in saltbush country much further west in NSW.
