Some 8 birders have now seen the pair of Black Honeyeaters in Mulligans
Flat Woodland Reserve on the northern edge of suburban Canberra.
I saw them again between 7 and 7.30 pm yesterday afternoon. The female was
feeding on insects which it plucked from the air in between bouts of
preening. My brief glimpse of the male was in a dead eucalypt amongst
clumps of mistletoe some 100 metres away.
Other birds seen in addition to those mentioned before included a female
Masked Woodswallow, a pair of Little Friarbirds and a begging Horsfield's
Bronze-Cuckoo being fed by a Buff-rumped Thornbill. Several birders have
reported up to 200 White-browed Woodswallows currently spread out across
the reserve, most nesting.
GPS coords for Black HEs are 35 09 59 / 149 10 48 (thanks to Steve
Holliday).
Cheers
