Hi Mick,

Yes there are pelagics that run from Ushuaia but I don't know of any others down the west coast. That is a very indented coast with very low population densities. I'm jealous of you going to the Pantanal - it's high on my wish list.

Have a great trip - I know you will.

Cheers,

Fiona Anderson

To Gunnar and everyone else who has helped out,

Thanks muchly for your assistance. Having visited the various web-sites and from reading between the lines it appears that the Jaramillo book is the 'must get' and I've already made arrangements for that one (thanks Steve!).

The only certainties for us are Chile and southern Argentina + Rio (Brazil) across the Pantanal into Bolivia, so I may have to rely on local resources if we head elsewhere. Our plans are hyper-flexible and may revolve around opportunities for volunteer work, which incidentally, if anyone is aware of interesting bird research projects that require volunteers, please let me know. I helped out with the 'Alas de las Americas' (Wings of America) project last time in Ecuador which was fantastic.

The other thing I was wondering is if there are any pelagic boat trips that run off Chile / Argentina? I will be getting as far south as Ushuaia so perhaps there is something down there?

Thanks again,

Mick
