Some interesting sightings from the Western Treatment Plant in my 3 visits
since returning from Madagascar a couple of weeks ago:
* Long-toed Stint - 1 (T Section lagoons);
* Wood Sandpiper - 2 (T Section Lagoons and 55 East Conservation
Ponds);
* Pectoral Sandpiper - 1 (55 East Conservation Ponds);
* Bar-tailed Godwit - 6 (5 juveniles and 1 adult on the coast just
east of Beach Road);
* Black-tailed Godwit - 6 to 9 in the usual spot in Walsh's Lagoons;
* Lesser Golden Plover - the usual group of up to 14 behind Kirk
Point;
* Marsh Sandpiper - 3 to 5 in the 55 East Conservation Ponds
* Whiskered Tern - 2,000 to 3,000 (maybe more) & widespread;
* Glossy Ibis - 6 to 9 seen in the T Section Lagoons, Walsh's Lagoons
and Paradise Road;
* Black-tailed Native-hen - 20+ in the usual spot at Austin Road;
* White-bellied Sea-Eagle - 1 sub-adult over the 145 West outlet;
* Wedge-tailed Eagle - 1 on the 29 Mile Road;
* Arctic Jaeger - 1 flew low over the 55 East Conservation Ponds,
causing pandemonium with the waders;
* Baillon's Crake - 2 55 East Conservation Ponds;
* the usual Australian Spotted Crakes (everywhere) and Buff-banded
Rails;
* 48 Freckled Ducks on Lake Borrie; and
* Influxes of Stubble Quail, Singing Bushlark and Great-crested Grebe.
I never got around to posting my sighting of an adult male Rose Robin on New
Farm Road on 1 September 2006.
