Hi all,

The Pectoral Sandpiper was still present at Buckley's Hole between 7am and
9am this morning, observed by Bob Inglis, Pete Kyne and myself. It stayed
for the most part near the reed island as described, but did make one
feeding pass just in from of the hide. Take care with ID as there are many
Sharpies with very clean cutoffs between their streaked breast and white
belly - best to use the bill shape, length and colour as well to inform ID.

We also had a very close encounter with Latham's Snipe right in front of the
hide. Also of interest were three very newly fledged Black-winged Stilt
which I initially mistook for Wood Sandpipers til I saw the leg length (yes,
their wings are grey-brown with speckles!).

There was a single Grey Plover at the Kakadu Beach wader roost, though very
little else.

Regards,

Attention SE Qld birders,

Trevor Ford found a Pectoral Sandpiper at Buckley's Hole, Bribie Island
yesterday. It was seen today (22 Nov 2006) near the small reed 'island' at
the northern end of the lake (right-side of public-hide)
There are also about 30-40 Sharp-tailed Sandpiper but this bird often
feeds
alone on the drier mud.

Trevor will add details of the sighting on the BirdsQueensland website.
