Starlings imitating Woodswallows

To summarise this thread:

We have learnt that gliding and hawking for flying insects is a
Starling behaviour in north-west Europe, but only seen in mid-summer
when flying insects swarm.

Several people, including several people in the Canberra area, have
reported that they are noticing the behavour increasingly, which was
my original observation.

I wonder if this might be drought-related (ground feeders switching to
an alternative and more rewarding strategy)?
