Hi all,
I went for a quick trip to the Callum Brae Reserve in Canberra's south yesterday. Despite it being windy and in the middle of the day I saw 30 species in about an hour including Weebill and Leaden Flycatcher building nests, Rufous Songlark calling, Willie Wagtail defending territory, several Speckled Warbler and Crimson Rosella in a tree hollow. The highlight was as I was getting back into the car at the end. I heard 'bird of prey' noises in the trees across the road. On investigation it was three Hobby in a nest. One stayed in the nest while the other two flew across the road, one of them looked like an immature bird following an adult which was carrying prey. I managed to find the adult perched in a tree but couldn't locate the other bird. I thought it could have been a young bird being encouraged to fly or hunt although I don't know what time of year that would normally happen,
Nick
