Hi All,
I was out wader watching on the weekend and the group I was with came across
a Red Capped Plover sitting on two eggs. The eggs were on the high tide
mark and pretty much out in the open (except for some seaweed and shells).
Whilst the area of beach isn't a high traffic spot, it is sometimes used by
locals to walk along, fish, and let dogs run free, so I don't see the eggs
lasting too long.
Anyway no-one in the group was sure how long it takes for the eggs to hatch
and I couldn't find anything in my guides to say how long either so now I'm
curious. Can anyone offer some advice on how long Red Capped Plovers need
to hatch their eggs? Its been windy and rainy for the last couple of days
so I'm hoping people have not been walking in the area and the eggs 'may'
have a chance (but then there's plenty of gulls and terns around too).
