Just a quick note...Eyrean Grasswrens are easy to see on almost every dune
west of Big Red near Birdsville. It is certainly 4wd country but best
to simply stay in the vehicle a few metres over the dune (so as to be able
to see potential approaching vehicles). My best views each time out
there were seen this way including photographs.
Surprizingly ,the middle of the day was often the best time to see them.
You never tire of seeing them but honestly they are probably the most
common bird on the dunes .........a fanatstic drive ...planning including water
and fuel issues are important also for those not experienced in this sort of
trip........the numerous crossings of Eyre Ck have plenty of lignum but my
searches have failed to find Grey Grasswren. My theory is that there is too
much eucalypt and other taller trees amongst the lignum....
Incidentally, the Grey Grasswrenhas been seen by others at the Jackson
Oil-fields site I posted last year.
