Hi all,
Spent Saturday in the Yarra Ranges, NE of Melbourne, in the slight hope of
spotlighting Leadbeater's possum. Whilst looking for tree hollows during the
day in the Starling's Gap area i had some nice sightings (turnoff 6km east
of Powelltown).
Pink Robin - 2 (male and female) (Two females also seen on the Ada tree
walk)
Flame Robin- many
Rose Robin - 6
Pilotbird - 1
Lyrebird
Olive Whistler-1
Whilst waling to the Ada tree near by i flushed an imm. Lyrebird which did
it's alarm screech as it flew down the gully beside me. An adult female
immediately flew up from the undergrowth nearby and perched in a tree near
to me. Over the next minute it approached me to within 1m then started doing
its alarm screech and pulling its wings out slightly, warning me i guess.
The imm. started calling down the gully and the female responded, wile
keeping a keen eye on me.
A pretty weird experience with these big eyed creatures.
