Hi All, Greg, Two years ago I recorded Russett -tailed Thrush in the Palmdale
area and it surprised me just how reddish brown it was compared to the 6 or 7
Bassian we saw that day. The field guides mostly say difficult to tell apart
and do not appear to consider the plumage colour as a significant
identification point. I spoke to Walter Boles curator of birds at the Museum
here in Sydney in regards to the difference in colour between the two species ,
and he said it was quiet noticeable. The colour of the Palmdale bird was so
much rustier I thought it must be a juv but according to HANZAB the juv are
more or less inseparable in the field. Could anyone else indicate their
impression of how much more rustier they find the Russet-tailed.
