No problem Mathew. Don't feel ashamed.
We all learn from our mistakes and most of us would have made a boo boo
or two in our birding (I can own up to that). I am sure if it did turn
out to be a Little Grebe, there would be a number of hungry twitchers
looking for it in no time.
Many rarities do get reported by the novices so I am always "open
minded" within reason when suspect birds get reported. And I wonder how
many rarities do get missed when someone dismisses a rarity for a common
bird!
