Brett was fascinated with birds, in fact had a solo exhibition in mid 1988 titled BIRDS and they were obviously the only subjects. Sculptures, prints & paintings. We lived just around the corner from his Surry Hills studio then. Still have the catalogue somewhere. Another bit of Whiteley bird trivia, the motel where he lost his battle with heroin in Thirroul is a convenient place to stay when participating on the Wollongong pelagics.
