My red face should well light up the forum.
It's an adult Australian grebe. (note to self, check weight guides in
*several* books in case the first one is inaccurate)
And doesn't have webbed feet, the toes are separate but have large extended
bits of skin around them.
The question now is, why can't we fly?
cheers

hi all
A friend of mine has a chick - Any guesses?
black webbed feet, medium long legs.
160grams, primary feathers partially grown, brown (with some red tint) on
top (with a darker cap), underneath light buff/white, still somewhat downy.
Yellow eyes with dark pupil, medium-short length straight stabbing beak.
beak is black with white tip. NO face plate but yellow marking to rear of
beak and under eyes (a bit like Aus Grebe in breeding pattern)
bird was picked up in Sydney Park, caught up in green nylon that comes
underneath turf.
thanks
storm
