In teh recnet issue of Dutch birding (a magazine for twitchers in The Netherlands) is a short aticle and a photo of a praying mantis preing on robins and flyctchers which were caught in mistnets to be ringed. It happende in the Ebro Delta (Spain) where each autumn there is a riniging campaign.

The mantis seems to be killing the birds (when they are head-down in the lower sections of the net) by eating its way to the cranial cavity through an eye!, Sorry but that's just how it is.

This is recorde over there for 8 birds. It is recorde before just 3 or 4 times.

I also witnessed a Kookaburra catching, kiling and eating an Brown Honeyeater at Daintree (Qld) august 2005.

Cheers,
Leo van Brunschot
