I'd like to congratulate Mark Whittaker on his article on the Grey-headed
Lapwing (Weekend Australian Magazine, August 5-6 2006). Yes, it was more about
the birders than the bird - but there was plenty of info for lay readers, and
anyone who wants to know about the bird knows where to look - here on
Birding-Aus!
The REST of the Australian populace must wonder what makes us tick - but this
article goes a long way to explaining this, so is important beyond its face
value of describing a mad rush to Burren Junction to see a bird that shouldn't
be there. In particular, I liked the way the article demonstrated that for
many birders, the whole experience is just as important as the birds we see -
this is what birding is for me, anyway. Thank you, Mark, for helping other
people to understand this as well.
Cheers
