Further to Bruce Crawfords report on the swimming Rainbow Lorrikeet, it brought to mind an incident that i witnessed earlier this year. While camping on the Murray River near Mildura an Australian Raven continually harassed a Galah in flight, forcing the Galah lower and lower and eventually into the river. As the Galah struggled towards a log on the bank, (swimming breast stroke) the Raven forcibly struck the Galah with it's bill trying to kill it or force it underwater. Through fatigue or by direct contact eventually the Galah succumbed and the raven had a meal. It wasn't pleasant viewing but nature is not always fluffy or cuddly or an old saying, beer and skittles, what ever that means.
Regards to all from Colin.
