We should be grateful to Simon Starr and Greg X for eliciting the response from
Chris Corben on the two species of frogmouth. The style and substance of this
response is characteristic of Chris.
There are some of us -- and there should be many of us -- who regard Chris'
capacities and knowledge with something akin to awe. He is a model of someone
whose immersion in birds (and not only birds!) seems entirely driven by
fascination and curiosity. His is an original intelligence. [When I was
checking that I was conveying what I meant, I looked up "original" in my
Macquarie Dictionary. The third definition is perfect for my purposes, "Arising
or proceeding from a thing in itself, or independently of anything else."].
I trust that Chris is aware that his comments are noted. Always.
Bill Watson,
Albury
