The Muscovy Duck are a domestic species, Cairina moschata, in places away from their natural home. They are derived from a species apparently native to Central and South America. So that would be why they would not feature in a normal book of European birds. As a domestic, they are very variable in colour and size. They are quite different from Mallards but occur with them in urban wetlands. Presumably they taste good. Someone should get rid of the ugly things! Philip |
